About

Mark Fisher picked up his first guitar when he was 14 years old…. and he hasn’t put it down since. A guitarist for over 35 years, Mark is an accomplished musician, performer, songwriter, and teacher.

A founding member of the folk rock group Plainjane, Mark has performed in venues ranging from small clubs to national concert stages.

Moving to Austin from Nashville in 2001, Mark recognized a need in the community for a practical, student-focused approach to individual guitar instruction and formed the Howlinfish School of Guitar. It is here that he found his niche as one of the most successful guitar teachers in this guitar-heavy town.

Sharing his vast knowledge of the guitar in a broad range of styles and genres, it’s his easygoing nature and temperament that sets him apart. It is clear Mark loves playing and he has a wonderful ability to pass that enthusiasm and skill on to others with a comfortable and easy approach to learning.

“Whether you are eight or 80, a beginner or an intermediate player, I will meet you where you are, and take you where you want to go.”
